Moncks Corner Homes For Sale

Just north of Charleston, Moncks Corner resides in Berkeley County. Boasting a population of over 6,000, this flourishing city has become renowned for its "small town" appeal.  As the cost of living in Charleston continues to rise, a growing number of purchasers are relocating to the suburbs outside of Charleston and into areas such as Moncks Corner and Summerville. Locals here appreciate the greater privacy that comes with bigger yards, while still being able to enjoy the same Southern charm of Charleston. Other draws include having Lake Moultrie nearby and more space for less money compared to nearby Goose Creek. Here it's easy to visit Charleston's beaches without breaking the bank in terms of real estate or insurance.

A Little History about Moncks Corner

Historians trace back its roots to 1738 when it was named in honor of landowner Thomas Monk. Initially, it served as a trading post on the southeastern corner of his Mitton Plantation where planters sold their crops. In 1856 the Northeastern Railroad built tracks over parts of Mitton and Fairlawn plantations whereby a depot and town center covering five acres were set aside for Moncks Corner.

Located just a short drive from downtown South Carolina and I-26, Moncks Corner and Berkeley County possess a long history, dating back to before the Revolutionary War. The story is effectively preserved at the Old Santee Canal Park, home to America's first canal, the Santee Canal. There, visitors can also find the Berkeley Museum which furthers their knowledge of the area's heritage. In terms of outdoor activities, both Lake Moultrie and Francis Marion National Forest provide plenty of opportunities. The former is popular amongst boaters, water skiers, and fishermen, while the latter offers campgrounds and breathtaking trails for nature enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike.
